I FELT it a great honor to be allowed to draw Flaxman and his companions who are celebrated racing hounds, and have won many prizes. Flaxman, I am told, is a sprinter and Barbara is a stayer. Radicum, or Toby, as he is called at home, is a retired gentleman, having broken his hock at the White City in 1932. Being a veteran, he now lives a very happy life at home on the earnings of his colleagues.

Expecting to find racing Greyhounds rather “up-ish,” I was delighted to meet so happy a family, who greeted me with such gusto that I had to be rescued repeatedly. They live at home during the quiet season and lead a normal dog’s life, so they are as affectionate as they are happy. But woe betide any cat that comes near their garden!
